While the iPhone 16 has not yet been revealed, rumors about its successor, the iPhone 17, are already starting to circulate. Scheduled for September 2025, this new model could mark a major turning point in the history of the iPhone. Here’s what we know so far about potential future innovations.
A redesigned design for more finesse
The big news could be the arrival of a “Slim” model, significantly thinner than the current iPhones. This new design would be inspired by the iPad Pro 2024, already recognized for its exceptional thinness. Apple would thus seek to offer “the thinnest and lightest products” in the technology industry.
This Slim model would probably replace the Plus version and become the flagship of the range, with a price higher than the current Pro Max. Its screen would be between 6.1 and 6.7 inches, with an aluminum chassis and improved performance thanks to the A19 chip.
Increased screen sizes
The standard iPhone 17 could move to a 6.3-inch screen, up from the current 6.1. The Pro and Pro Max models would also see their diagonal increase, reaching 6.3 and 6.9 inches respectively. These changes would allow Apple to offer a better visual experience to its users.
ProMotion for everyone and a more resistant screen
ProMotion technology, until now reserved for Pro models, could be generalized to the entire iPhone 17 range. This means that all models would benefit from an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, for increased fluidity and better autonomy.
In addition, Apple is reportedly working on a new anti-reflective coating that is more scratch-resistant than the current Ceramic Shield. Good news for the durability of devices.
Increasing performance
On the processor side, the iPhone 17s would feature either the A18 or A19 chip, depending on the model. The Pro versions could be equipped with 12 GB of RAM, while the standard models would increase to 8 GB. Enough to offer significantly better performance than previous generations.
Photo and connectivity improvements
The front camera could increase to 24 megapixels on all models, compared to 12 currently. The Pro Max’s telephoto lens could also see its resolution increase to 48 megapixels.
Concerning connectivity, the Pro models would adopt Wi-Fi 7, allowing even higher speeds and better connection stability.
A redesigned Dynamic Island
The “Dynamic Island”, this interactive notch introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro, could be reduced on the iPhone 17 Pro Max thanks to new proximity sensor technology. Other models would maintain the current size.
A simplified range?
Apple could simplify its range by abandoning the Plus model in favor of the new Slim. The 2025 line-up would then consist of the standard iPhone 17, the Slim, the Pro and the Pro Max.
Although this information remains to be confirmed, the iPhone 17 promises to be a major evolution in the Apple range. With a redesigned design, increased performance and new features, it could well redefine the standards of the high-end smartphone market.
